U.S. Army Cpl. Shay Silversmith, a member of the Navajo Nation (Diné), proudly serves as an Apache helicopter mechanic (15R) assigned to the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade (16th CAB) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. His ultimate goal is to become a recruiter or instructor and reach out to his community and show them “what the Army can bring to their lives, what is outside the reservation.” Silversmith adds, “We are strong people, we are very honorable, and we do want to bring that honor back to ourselves.”
