U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Scott M. Sherman, commanding general, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), addresses a group of senior interagency delegates from the U.S. and Mexico Oct. 22, 2024, during the Regional Border Commanders Conference (RBCC) in Monterrey, Mexico. The Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Secretariat of National Defense) hosted the conference Oct. 22-23, which brought together delegates to promote U.S.-Mexico defense through secure borders, information sharing and collaboration. Sherman led the U.S. contingent comprised of members of the Department of Defense, Department of State and law enforcement.
As the land forces component of U.S. Northern Command, U.S. Army North’s (Fifth Army) mission is to conduct multi-domain operations to detect, deter and defeat threats to the homeland, provide disaster and emergency response support to federal, state, local, tribal and territorial partners, and advance security cooperation with Mexico and Canada.
