Sir Newton, a joy ambassador dog with the Hawaiian Humane Society Pet Visitation Program, poses for a photo aboard USS Shiloh (CG 67) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Dec. 10, 2024. Shiloh Chaplain Lt. j.g. Kelsey Fauser, initiated the request via the Hawaiian Humane Society, which resulted in four dogs and their handlers attending the two-hour event. Approximately 300 Sailors spent time rubbing bellies and taking selfies with the four-legged visitors. Newton’s handler is Karina Wise-Estrada, community relations specialist, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF). PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to repair, maintain, and modernize Navy fast-attack submarine and surface ships, in order to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight.” (U.S. Navy photo by Claudia LaMantia)
