NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (December 4, 2024) – Acting Under Secretary of the Navy, Tom Mancinelli, tours the hangar bay of the Ford-class aircraft carrier Pre-Commissioning Unit John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), Dec. 4, 2024. During the ship visit, Acting Under Secretary Mancinelli saw firsthand how important the maritime industrial base workforce is for the construction of the world’s most technologically-advanced Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier. John F. Kennedy is the second Ford-class aircraft carrier and is under construction at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division in Newport News, Virginia.
