Liam Cronin is a lock and dam operator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District at the Montgomery Locks and Dam on the Ohio River in Monaca, Pennsylvania.
Lock and dam operators are responsible for operating dam gates, control valves, miter gates and other equipment required to support private and commercial traffic that passes through a lock chamber. Operators are critical members to support safe inland navigation through the Pittsburgh District area, which includes three rivers, the Ohio, Allegheny and the Monongahela. Lock operators perform a variety of tasks which may require mechanical skills, such as installation, repair, and maintenance of lock or lock and dam machinery and equipment.
