Lt. Gen. Roberta Shea, Commander of the United States Marine Corps Forces Command and Commanding General of Fleet Marine Force Atlantic sits down with the USS Iwo Jima’s Commanding Officer Capt. Brian Hamel, Dec. 20, while the ship is in port at Naval Station Norfolk. Marine Forces Command visited the Iwo Jima for a tour of the ship’s Marine spaces ahead of next year’s blue-green team integration. Amphibious assault ships, like Iwo Jima, project power and maintain presence by serving as the flagship of an amphibious ready group and expeditionary strike group at sea.
