ANNAPOLIS, Md (Dec. 30 2024) U.S Navy Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Collin Jaeger, attached to the Marksmanship Training Unit, fires a 40 millimeter saluting blank cartridge in honor of former president Jimmy Carter, Naval Academy class of 1947. As one of our distinguished alumni, President Carter truly lived up to the mission of the Naval Academy leaving our school with a sense of duty, honor, and loyalty. His time here undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping the leader that he became. The first and only president to graduate from the Naval Academy, he ultimately ascended to the highest responsibility of command, citizenship, and government, serving as 39th President of the United States from 1977-1981.
As the undergraduate college of our country's naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Hannah K. Cox)
