KITTERY, Maine (Dec. 11, 2024) Representatives of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the manufacturer install a state-of-the-art sensor kit in the shipyard’s inside machine shop as part of a pilot program to collect data on equipment productive capacity, usage and maintenance. The initiative is intended to demonstrate that third-party sensor kits can deliver critical insights without compromising security or information technology safeguards for sensitive machinery. It is funded under the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program, which is investing in infrastructure and industrial plant equipment at its four public shipyards to expand shipyard capacity and optimize shipyard configuration to meet the Navy’s nuclear-powered fleet maintenance requirements.
