Major Gen. Ronald Bailey, commanding general with 1st Marine Division, pins the Navy and Marine Corps Medal on Lance Cpl. Benjamin Nalls, a fire team leader with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, here, March 8, 2013. Nalls received the award for saving the life of a fellow Marine on a resupply patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan, Feb. 23, 2012. The medal is the highest non-combat decoration awarded for heroism, and was established in August 1942.
