NEWPORT, R.I.— Vice Adm. Thomas G. Allan Jr., Deputy Commandant for Mission Support, U.S. Coast Guard, addresses international students attending the U.S. Naval War College’s (NWC) Maritime Security and Governance Staff Course (MSGSC) onboard Naval Station Newport, Jan. 7, 2025. The Maritime Security and Governance Staff Course is an unclassified five-month course designed to provide officers from small navies and coast guards the knowledge and skills necessary to more effectively promote and achieve maritime security and good maritime governance in their national and regional waters. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
