VICENZA, Italy— The 173rd Brigade Support Battalion celebrated the induction of its newly graduated jumpmasters on January 10, 2024, at Del Din, marking a significant milestone in the unit’s airborne capabilities.
The ceremony honored the cohort’s successful completion of the rigorous Jumpmaster Mobile Training Team (MTT) course held in Aviano, Italy. The course concluded on December 19, 2024, and was conducted by the United States Army’s Jumpmaster School.
The Jumpmaster School prepares service members to execute and oversee airborne operations. Training encompasses critical skills, including the proper attaching, jumping, and releasing of combat and individual equipment during operational jumps. Participants also master personnel parachute components by specific nomenclature and characteristics, ensuring proficiency in their functionality.
Other key competencies developed include conducting Jumpmaster Personnel Inspections (JMPI), rigging individual equipment containers and door bundles, and executing the duties of the Drop Zone Safety Officer. Graduates also learn to deliver the Jumpmaster briefing and lead sustained airborne training (SAT), culminating in a day and night combat equipment jump to demonstrate their expertise as Jumpmasters and Safeties.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade serves as the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to U.S. European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed in Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains with NATO allies and partners to build relationships and strengthen the alliance.
