A hillside in Southern California is covered in ash, giving a snow-like appearance in the aftermath of the Palisades fire which burnt 23,448 acres, killed 12 people, and destroyed 6,837 structures before it was contained on January 31, 2025. Master Sgt. Steven Boyd, 142nd Wing Deputy Fire Chief, went down to California in January with the Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue based in central Washington. Boyd and his crew aided in mitigating further destruction in the aftermath of the fire. (Courtesy photo)
