Lt. Col. Charles R. Cassidy, commanding officer of Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 3/2, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Sgt. Maj. James S. Moran, BLT 3/2 sergeant major, embark from Naval Station Norfolk, Va., on the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) March 11, 2013. The 26th MEU is deploying to the 5th Fleet and 6th Fleet areas of operation. The MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a a forward-deployed, sea-based, quick-reaction force.
