Elyssa Mendez, a park ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District’s Proctor Lake, has found several alligator scutum during her travels throughout the wildlife management areas that surround the lake. The scute is a bony external plate overlaid with horn that makes up the bumps that travel along the back of an alligator.
