Minnesota National Guard NOREX participants completed a field training exercise in Haltdalen, Norway, from Feb. 10-13, 2025. The training included a ski march up a mountain, setting up tents, building snow caves, and a polar plunge. Service members experienced firsthand what it’s like to operate in a harsh winter environment, just as Norwegian Home Guard soldiers do.
The Guardsmen participating in this training are a part of the Reciprocal Norwegian Exchange, commonly referred to as NOREX, a partnership program whereby approximately 100 Minnesota National Guardsmen and 100 Norwegian Home Guardsmen visit the opposite country to train and exchange cultural understandings. This is the 52nd year the two nations have participated in the NOREX and is one of the longest running state partnership programs in the world.
