Sailors prepare to raise a flag in honor of Carderock's Technical Director, Lawrence Tarasek on February 19, 2025. Mr. Tarasek retired the following day after 40 years of service to the Navy. He began his career in February 1985 in the Signatures Department at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division and provided engineering design support for the Seawolf-class submarine program, encompassing the design and testing of numerous silencing components and their integration into a balanced ship design, later working on the early stages of the Virginia-class submarine design. In September 2018, he was appointed to the Senior Executive Service as Technical Director at Carderock. In this role he oversaw research, development, testing, evaluation, analysis, systems engineering, design, integration, and certification of complex naval warfare systems for ships, combatant craft, and Marine Corps vehicles. Carderock, the Navy's innovation and ship design powerhouse, headquartered in West Bethesda, Maryland, is a world-class research and development facility specializing in critical ship and ship systems design.
