Mechanical engineering students work on calculations of power output from the given wave behavior, as part of the capstone project to harness power from wave movement in the near-shore environment, in a collaboration between Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC) and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Launched in the 2024-2025 academic year, the collaboration is a multi-year, multi-disciplinary capstone project to design, build, test, and field an Expeditionary Ocean Power Generator (ExOPG).
