U.S. Army Soldiers with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) conduct a funeral for U.S. Army Air Forces 2nd Lt. Francis E. Callahan at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Feb. 24, 2025. Callahan was assigned to the 732nd Bombardment Squadron, 453rd Bombardment Group, as the navigator aboard a B-24H Liberator bomber, nicknamed “Little Joe,” during World War II. On April 8, 1944, Callahan was killed in action when Little Joe was shot down by an enemy fighter aircraft during a bombing mission to Brunswick, Germany. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for Callahan on June 20, 2024, and he was returned to his family for burial with full military honors. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Ashleigh Maxwell)
