JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON - (Feb. 25, 2025) – Rear Adm. Matthew Case, director, U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps, presented director coins to Army Sergeants Carlos Torres and Samantha Salas assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio’s Research Services Directorate during a tour of unit facilities at the Tri-Service Research Laboratory. Case, who additional serves as the director of the Navy Medical Service Corps, visited NAMRU San Antonio to better understand the unit’s mission, capabilities, and impact to Navy Medicine. Torres was Navy Medical Research and Development’s (NMR&D) 2024 Solider of the year and Salas was Solider of the Quarter (3rd Quarter 2024). NAMRU San Antonio is one of eight research laboratories within Navy Medicine Research and Development. Its mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
