250304-O-NJ594-1007, Portsmouth, Virginia (Mar. 4, 2025) The Navy and Marine Corps Force Health Protection Command (NMCFHPC) hosts a cake-cutting ceremony commemorating the Navy Medical Corps 154th birthday, Mar. 3, 2025, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, building 3, on the 10th floor quarterdeck. Capt. Marion Gregg, commander of the Navy and Marine Corps Health Protection Command (NMCFHPC), director of Defense Centers for Public Health – Portsmouth (DCPH-P) welcomed staff and servicemembers to the celebration, and the oldest and youngest Medical Corps staff members cut the birthday cake with a U.S. Navy Officer saber. The Medical Corps is comprised of more than 4,300 active-duty and reserve physicians, practicing in dozens of specialties and subspecialties around the world. Since the establishment of the Navy Medical Corps in 1871, Navy Medical Officers have served alongside Sailors and Marines who put themselves in harm’s way to defend the Constitution and protect our Nation.
