USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) departs recently from Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) in California after a weeklong Combat Systems Assessment Team (CSAT) event. The “Fighting Fitz” last had a CSAT event at NSWC PHD in 2021, after it underwent repairs of damage from a 2017 collision with a merchant vessel. At the time of the 2021 CSAT, a cross-warfare center team digitally recorded the repaired areas of the ship using a lidar scanner, a tripod-mounted device that captures light, distance and range and creates a digital image and a data point cloud scan.
