South Carolina National Guard activated eight Soldiers and two UH-60 Black Hawks from Company A, 1-111th General Support Aviation Battalion from McEntire Joint National Guard Base and one CH-47 Chinook and five Soldiers from Det. 1, Company B, 2-238th General Support Aviation Battalion from the Donaldson Center in Greenville as part of the state’s response to the Covington Drive Fire multi-agency response team, Horry County, South Carolina, March 4, 2025. The aircraft have completed 281 water drops, delivering approximately 264,900 gallons of water, over 42 flight hours. These numbers reflect end of day totals as of yesterday, March 3, 2025. The South Carolina National Guard has assisted with firefighting efforts in the past. In 2009, the Guard was activated to support the S.C. Forestry Commission for the Highway 301 fire in Horry County and again in 2016 for the Pinnacle Mountain fire in Pickens County.
