ATLANTIC OCEAN (March 14, 2025) Aviation Support Equipment Technician 3rd Class Christopher Zeruto, from Saint Cloud, Florida, assigned to the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) watches for the movement of hydraulic aircraft jack to see if extra weight needs to be applied during a maintenance check while underway. Iwo Jima is conducting Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training, a rigorous multi-domain exercise designed to enhance warfighting effectiveness and interoperability. SWATT is led and assessed by the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center and prepares the Iwo Jima Amphibious Readiness Group for deployment by sharpening its ability to operate in high-end maritime conflict scenarios. Iwo Jima is the flagship of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group which is uniquely positioned to deter aggression, project power through presence abroad, and execute contingency missions with its integrated Marine Corps team in support of U.S. strategic interests.
