For his work on the Skyborg Vanguard program developing an autonomous uncrewed aircraft capability for the Air Force and transitioning it into the new Collaborative Combat Aircraft program for tactical air dominance, Dr. Patrick Berry was awarded the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service. His initiative established the first-ever Air Force Vanguard program to successfully transition to a program-of-record.
AFLCMC Commander Lt Gen Donna Shipton presented Dr. Berry with the award March 18 at AFLCMC headquarters, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
The Decoration is given by the Secretary of the Air Force. It is awarded for Air Force-wide impact and unprecedented achievements. Frank Kendall signed the award before leaving his post as Secretary of the Air Force in January.
Dr. Berry is the senior level (SL) technical advisor for artificial intelligence within AFLCMC. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Dayton in Electro-Optics and began his civilian service in 2003.
