Sgt. Zac Coe, field radio operator, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, holds his son, Henry, for the first time during the battalion’s advance party homecoming March 18, 2013. Coe is a first-time father and was deployed to Afghanistan when his son was born in November. During the birth of his son, Coe listened on the phone from overseas, he said. It’s not how he pictured it, but it was still good to hear it all. The ADVON Marines will be making preparations for the return of the rest of the battalion scheduled for April. The battalion began their 7-month deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom last year. They are being replaced in their mission to support the Afghan National Forces overseas by Marines with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, who deployed earlier this month.
