U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Alex Padilla visited U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) wildfire recovery debris removal sites March 21 in Altadena Calif., where they received progress updates from USACE Deputy Commanding General Maj. Gen. Jason Kelly, FEMA Regional Administrator Bob Fenton, USACE Emergency Field Office-Eaton commander, Col. Sonny Avichal, along with our federal, state and local partners. The congressional delegation observed various phases of debris removal operations including destroyed properties, completed properties, ongoing debris removal, and debris loading onto trucks. Recovery response leaders thanked local and state partners, as well as impacted residents, for their coordination and emphasized safety as a top priority throughout the process. At the completion of the impacted area tour, the group convened at the USACE Altadena Golf Course staging site where they were provided an overview of planned recycling operations for asbestos-free clean concrete, metal, and vegetative debris. USACE is leading Phase 2 debris removal efforts in coordination with federal, state, and local partners to help communities recover efficiently. The deadline for residents to submit a right-of-entry form to have USACE clear their property at no cost is March 31. (U.S. Army photos by Brooks O. Hubbard IV)
