U.S. Army Soldiers from the 1-111th General Support Aviation Battalion, 59th Aviation Troop Command, from McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover with one UH-60 Black Hawk and 2-238th General Support Aviation Battalion, 59th Aviation Troop Command CH-47 Chinook helicopters minutes before they embark on their fire suppression missions, Greenville, South Carolina, March 23, 2025. Aviation assets are supporting the South Carolina Forestry Commission with fire suppression at Persimmon Ridge Fire also known as Wilderness Bridge Area between Caesars Head and Jones Gap State Parks. The South Carolina National Guard is committed to supporting local and state agencies. Each Black Hawk carries a water bucket hauling about 600 gallons, while a Chinook can drop up to 2,000 gallons.
