Retired U.S. Army Capt. Monika Stoy presents an award to Deputy Mayor Robert Graaf during the 80th anniversary of Operation Varsity Mar. 24, 2025, on Hamminkeln, Germany, honoring the courage of Allied forces who fought to secure freedom during World War II. Operation Varsity was the largest single-day airborne operation of WWII, it mobilized 16,000 troops and thousands of aircraft in the final major airborne assault of the war and it remains to be one of the last airborne operations of its scale in American history (U.S. Army photo by Pfc.
