Master Chief Machinist’s Mate (Non-Nuclear, Submarine Auxiliary) Donovan Hatch joins members of Navy Region Hawaii and Navy Closure Task Force Red Hill Chief's Mess in an early-morning hike at Koko Crater Railway Trailhead on Oahu, Hawaii, April 1, to celebrate the 132nd birthday of the U.S. Navy chief petty officer. Chiefs are the most senior enlisted leaders who are responsible for training, mentoring, and leading their divisions, bridging the gap between officers and enlisted personnel, and upholding Navy traditions and heritage. More than 30 Sailors and civilians participated in the hike, which fostered camaraderie and reinforced both unity and readiness within the command. Navy Region Hawaii is the regional coordinator for all shore-based naval personnel and shore activities in Hawaii, and its mission is to support the readiness of the fleet and warfighters.
