Rear Adm. During the tour, Barnett received a brief on military working dog (MWD) kennel operations, observed a bite demonstration and presented coins to service members assigned to the unit. MWDs ensure the safety of personnel and resources on the installation by scanning buildings, ships and submarines to apprehend suspects, and to detect explosives and narcotics. Commander, Navy Region Hawaii is the regional coordinator for all shore-based naval personnel and shore activities in Hawaii and enables naval forces and fleet operations.
