Maj. Kristina M. Coughlin poses for a photo March 19, 2025, at the United States School of Aerospace Medicine, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
Coughlin is the recipient of the 2024 Air Force Medical Service Annual Awards - USAF Nursing Educator of the Year. "My nursing journey in the Air Force has taken me on a path I could never have imagined,” Coughlin reflected on her service, “It has proven to be far more adventurous and rewarding than I could have ever planned. Going from a bedside nurse, to Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) nurse, to cadre in a very high-visibility training platform is truly rewarding. I am inspired, challenged and humbled by every student as I serve in the role of educator."
USAFSAM is home to more than 220 globally-recognized experts in public health, aerospace medicine and operational medicine, and trains approximately 5,000 students each year. USAFSAM’s embedded role within AFRL and its unique synergy with the 711th Human Performance Wing enables the organization’s mission to promote ready Airmen, Guardians and medics in all environments through research, education and consultation.
