A U.S. Soldier assigned to 1st Battalion, 589th Brigade Support Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Brigade assembles an M249 SAW machine gun as part of the Expert Soldier Badge weapon lane during the 41st FAB best squad competition on Camp Aachen, Bavaria, Germany, April 8, 2025. During the ESB weapon lane, Soldiers tested to demonstrate individual Soldiers competencies and abilities to clear, disassemble, assemble, and perform a function checks on selected weapons; M4 carbine, M2 .50 Cal machine gun, M249 SAW, M17 pistol, and M240 machine gun.The Army Best Squad Competition tests Soldiers on their individual and collective ability to adapt to and overcome challenging scenarios that test their physical and mental endurance, technical and tactical abilities and basic warrior skills under stress and extreme fatigue.
