Rep. Laura Gillen (D-NY), left, greets Dr. Deborah Berlinger Eiferman, right, upon her arrival in Section 18 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Monday, April 7, 2025. All were in attendance of a ceremony that was held to rededicate (with the proper emblem of belief) the graves of U.S. Army Pfc. Adolph Hanf and Pvt. David Moser who both served during World War I. Eiferman, 102, is the niece of Moser. Due to an error of fact, both soldiers’ headstones were originally engraved with the Latin Cross instead of the Star of David. These inscription discrepancies were corrected in early 2025 after ANC approved a change request from Operation Benjamin (a non-profit organization devoted to preserving the memories of American-Jewish personnel at American military cemeteries). ANC approved the request after confirming Moser and Hanf’s burial records indicated their faiths as Jewish. (U.S. Army photo by Elizabeth Fraser / Arlington National Cemetery / released)
