This killdeer was spotted nesting in a public use area on Pine Creek Lake April 7, 2025. Kildeer, a type of plover, often lay their eggs in a shallow, gravelly area where their eggs will blend into the surroundings. They are known for their dramatic "broken-wing" displays they use to distract predators from their eggs and their young. (Official U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photo by Stacey Reese/Released).
