WASHINGTON, DC (April 10, 2025) - The NAVSEA 62nd Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony for the USS Thresher (SSN 593) was held in Bldg. 201 at the Washington Navy Yard. Opening and closing remarks were given by Ms. Stephanie Link, executive director, In-Service Submarine Program Executive Office, Attack Submarines. Presentation remarks were given by Rear Adm. Todd Weeks, program executive officer, Program Executive Office, Strategic Submarines. The USS Thresher was lost at sea with 129 personnel onboard. From this tragic event the Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) Program was established to provide maximum integrity of critical systems and components. (U.S. Navy photo by Laura Lakeway)
