U.S. Army paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade trained alongside Italian, Slovenian and French soldiers during the Communicators Academy at Caserma Ederle, April 15–17, 2025. The multinational training event brought together 153 troops to bolster interoperability and refine battlefield communication skills.
Hosted by the 173rd Airborne Brigade’s Signal staff and Raven Company, the exercise focused on building a shared understanding of tactical communications systems and processes used by allied forces.
“It allows us to manage communication knowledge across the brigade,” said Raven Company First Sgt. Jasmine Smith. “It allows us to bring all the signal soldiers together so they can learn from the signal company and Brigade S6. We share experience and we share knowledge.”
Participants rotated through a series of hands-on workshops and operational scenarios designed to simulate real-world challenges in deploying and maintaining communications networks during joint missions.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade, based in Italy and Germany, is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe. The brigade provides rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility and regularly trains with NATO allies to enhance readiness and reinforce multinational cooperation.
