Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City (NSWC PCD) Buffalo Systems Deputy Project Engineer Steven (Tate) Carow shows the location of the Rear-Door Assist (RDA) mechanism. The RDA is a modified commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hydraulic cylinder that pushes and holds open the rear door aboard the U.S. Marine Corps Buffalo Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle. The MRAP's rear door normally requires a manual effort to open. The RDA mechanism is an upgrade designed to assist opening the vehicle's door in situations like a roll-over, if the vehicle has to park on uneven terrain or if environmental heat affects the door's frame.
