Staff Sgt. Richar E. Near was awarded Master Instructor of the Year at the Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School. After 3 combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, Near dedicated himself to teaching young Marines combat readiness at Marine Combat Training in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
