Capt. Karla Frey helps a soldier pin on his race bib at the 5K warrior run she organized in memory of her friend, Sgt. Merlin German, a Marine who died in 2008 from injuries sustained in Iraq in 2005. Frey wanted to do something to honor her friend, who inspired and motivated her. "He was one of the strongest people I have ever met," said Frey, the officer in charge of the Joint Visitors Bureau for the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. "He never complained about his pain, never wanted people to feel sorry for him, and he always had appositive attitude." (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Norman Barrett, 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade)
