Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley, chief of the Army Reserves, spoke to the crew of the Logistics Support Vessel-8 (LSV-8) Maj. Gen. Robert Smalls to celebrate the 105th birthday of the Army Reserve today. The Army watercraft is crewed by the 805th Transportation Detachment, an Army reserve unit from Tacoma, Wash. The ship’s home port is Baltimore, Md. LSV-8 is an important logistics asset in the Persian Gulf. It is capable of moving equipment, vehicles and supplies from Army bases or naval ships directly to beaches if necessary. Talley thanked the crew for their hospitality and service in a unique Army career field.
