Six-year-old Gaith Mijbill Saood receives a coin from Maj. Gen. John F. Kelly (3rd from the left), commanding general, Multi National Force-West, in al-Anbar province. Saood was one of the first Iraqi civilians to cross a newly-constructed Mabey-Johnson float bridge in Baghdadi, Iraq, May 24, 2008. The bridge stretches across the Euphrates River and will reduce travel time to communities on the opposite side of the river by eight hours over tortuous roads. Under coordination from the 22nd Naval Construction Regiment, Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 17 executed all of the earthwork, and Soldiers from the U.S. Army's 814th Multi-Role Bridge Company constructed and emplaced the MJB. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers coordinated with the Iraqi ministry of water resources for critically important additional water flow from a nearby dam. Also assisting in this effort were multiple coalition force units including Marine Engineers. (U.S. Navy/Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey J. Pierce)
