Tech. Sgt. Raymond J. Wayne, 177th Fighter Wing Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, New Jersey Air National Guard, verifies that the contents of the 500-pound BDU-50 practice bombs are concrete and not explosive following a render safe procedure at Detachment 1, Warren Grove Range, N.J., May 3, 2013. The 177th EOD unit held their annual clearance April 29 through May 3, 2013. The EOD airmen retrieved all the ordnance that had been dropped at the range during the past year and on May 3, a render safe procedure - a controlled detonation - was done to make two 2,000-pound practice bombs and 39 500-pound BDU-50 practice bombs safe for later reclamation. Warren Grove Range is operated by the 177th Fighter Wing, and provides a training environment for all military and ground combat forces. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Master Sgt. Mark C.
