U.S. Marine assault men with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment apply cleaning lubricant protectant to the chamber of the spotting rifle mounted on the side of the Shoulder-Launched Multi-Purpose Assault Weapon (SMAW) before conducting live-fire rocket drills at Rodriguez Live-Fire Complex in the Republic of Korea April 11. The spotting rifle fires tracer rounds, allowing the gunner to properly “walk” onto his target before firing his 83mm rocket. All of the assaultmen from 1/3 came together to conduct the training evolution in support of exercise Ssang Yong 2013. Ssang Yong, meaning “Twin Dragons,” represents the U.S. and ROK forces and is intended to strengthen ROK-U.S. combat readiness and interoperability through the conduct of joint and combined amphibious operations. The battalion is attached to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force as part of the Marine Corps Unit Deployment Program. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
