Spc. Rene Abelar, a native of Perris, Calif., mans a .50-caliber machine gun on top of his 5-ton truck while an AH 64 Apache flies over his position during Operation Royalty Sept. 6, 2005. Operation Royalty resulted in the capture of a team of bomb makers while they were building a car bomb to be used against Coalition and Iraqi Forces. The Battalion sized cordon and search operation northwest of Baghdad was a joint effort between 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, the 1st Mechanized Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division, and 3rd Infantry Division's Aviation Brigade.
