Gunnery Sgt. Jonathan Ferguson, the Corporal’s Course director aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., and a Dayton, Ohio, native, performs pre-combat checks with his Marines while on deployment in the province of Helmand, Afghanistan, Oct. 7, 2011. Ferguson initially joined the Marine Corps to get out of Ohio, and has since had the chance to travel abroad to different states and countries.
