A new hydro-impact basin was installed at the NASA Langley Research Center Landing and Impact Research Facility in Hampton, Va. In an effort to analyze all possible outcomes, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration tested Orion’s capabilities to determine if it was structurally sound to touchdown on land or water upon return to Earth’s atmosphere.
