Maj. Gen. Robert F. Hedelund, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing commanding general, presented Capt. David W. Haake, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 365 MV-22B Osprey pilot, with the Distinguished Flying Crosses in the squadron’s hangar aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, June 28. He was awarded for bravery and courage shown while inserting the embarking ground force required to reinforce a firefight between Alpha Company, 2nd Division Reconnaissance Battalion and the enemy in a heavily defended enemy landing zone in Afghanistan, June 2012. He is the first Marine Corps Osprey pilot to earn the Distinguished Flying Cross.
