Contestants in the pie-eating contest eat away at apple, marshmallow pie during 2nd Marine Regiment’s fourth annual Beach Bash, July 2, 2013 at Onslow Beach. “The Beach Bash allows all the families and Marines to come together before we deploy,” said 1st Lieutenant Derick Roberts, Headquarters Company executive officer, from Hoxie, Ark. “It’s a good time to get off work, come out and spend time together, and let the families meet one another. When we’re gone the families will have each other to lean on, so it’s good for them to meet one another and build that support system they will need. And it’s a good time to let the Marines bond in a low stress environment before we get to a high stress environment.”
