Pfc. Brett Conover, an infantryman with 4th Battalion, 23rd
Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division,
is pictured in front of the 7th Infantry Division headquarters, July 8,
2013. Conover, a Mission Viejo, Calif., native, recently graduated Ranger
school at Fort Benning, Ga., after successfully completing the Division
Ranger School Assessment. The DRSA is a new program developed by the
division in order to prepare soldiers for the rigorous course in Georgia;
only those who pass the DRSA will be endorsed by the division and move onto
school. According to the Ranger Training Battalion, only about 50 percent of
candidates graduate Ranger school, and at least 37 percent of those
graduates have to restart at least one of the four phases that comprise the
school. Conover, however, passed each phase on his first try. "He's just an
amazing soldier," said Staff Sgt. Daniel LeGeer, the 7th Inf. Div. Ranger
operations noncommissioned officer. "He is a great representation of the
division and the Army Profession." LeGeer invited Conover to help assess the
newest Ranger recruits during the division's most recent DRSA course, July 8
through 10, as well as give them insight into what they may encounter at the
school."
