Soldiers and airmen of the Maine National Guard stand and listen as Robert Hartwig, a historian with the National Park Service, tells the story of the 16th Maine Infantry Regiment's stand on Oak Ridge in Gettysburg, Pa., July 17. During the afternoon of July 1, 1863 the 16th Maine was given the order to hold their position at any cost, eventually there were overrun, but not before defending the withdrawal of more than 16,000 union troops from the advancing Confederate army.
